fedi.vision closure announcement

This account, and this instance, will be shutting down at the end of August 2025 before the domain expires.

The Fedi software that powers this instance does not have a self-destruct command, so instead we will delete this account, force an unfollow on other admin accounts, and turn off the server. Other servers will (after about a week) stop communicating with it.

Thanks for the memories, everyone. Be excellent to each other.

Some of you have been asking about the #Fedivision song contest, and whether it will run this year.

#Fedivision2025 will not be run.

The organizers (@TQ, @zatnosk, and me) agree that the Fediverse has grown to a size where Fedivision doesn’t work as a format any more. We have so many talented amateur musicians here that it’s not practical for voters to commit the hours of time needed to listen to all the entries. The labour required to organize the event has also scaled past the point where we can do it in our spare time.
